“Beyond taking away valuable oratorical skills through the rigorous debate sessions in the conference, HMC provided us with first-hand exposure to the American culture and society- not only in the political sphere, but also through the interactions we had with our fellow congressmen during the conference. This deepened our understanding of America as an economic juggernaut and crystallised our views on foreign policies. This personal journey of growth allowed us to discover ourselves, learn to make friends from all around the world, and humble ourselves to learn from those more experienced than us.
TLL gave us ample training sessions ranging from initial brainstorming, mass briefing sessions, demonstrative speeches to even 1-on-1 coaching to improve our debate techniques and personal style. The teachers guided us through the entire process and made sure to continually provide feedback so we could keep working to improve ourselves. Needless to say, we were all well-prepared for the conference, and did TLL proud by clinching numerous awards as a team.”

What Is The Harvard Model Congress?
Founded in 1986, the Harvard Model Congress (HMC) is an educational, non-profit and the United States’ oldest government simulation conference run exclusively by undergraduates of Harvard University.
The HMC presents an exclusive opportunity for high school students to engage with American government and develop a better understanding of civic involvement and government function through role-play and simulation.
Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of the U.S. government and agencies through opportunities to role play legislators, governors, journalists, cabinet ministers and even Supreme Court judges.
The Learning Lab's Involvement
The Learning Lab is proud to play an active part in sending our students to global conferences like the HMC, the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC), and the Global Young Innovators Initiative (GYII).
These are excellent platforms which serve to expose our students to the broad spectrum of pressing federal issues, immersing them in a stimulating learning environment that fosters individual growth and group education, and ultimately, helping them achieve their goals and dreams as future leaders.
This year, we are delighted to send 13 students, chaperoned by 3 senior teachers, to the HMC 2016 in Boston, USA. Follow our delegates on this exciting adventure as they share live updates of their journey on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheLearningLabSingapore/) and Instagram, @thelearninglab.
