In the PSLE year, students will meet the challenge of revising content knowledge accumulated from Primary 3 to Primary 6 whilst preparing for a series of examinations leading up to the national exam.

Our Primary 6 programmes place a strong emphasis on evaluative learning and giving students the best academic and learning support to hone strengths and work on areas of progress.

English

Lesson Duration: 2 hrs
Class size: 10 - 12 students


 

 

Students are guided to execute key examination strategies and techniques in the lead up to the PSLE. Reinforce skills to ace examination components such as comprehension, composition, grammar and situational writing.

Content and Language Mastery


Students will learn advanced grammar rules and thematic vocabulary with custom-designed workshops and activity booklets to build precise language skills.

These include:

  • rule of proximity
  • reported speech
  • conditionals

 

Skills and Techniques


Students refine their skills in the following key areas:

Speaking

  • Students will refine their communication and interview skills through DSA preparation classes. They will learn how to engage with the audience and present their opinions in a convincing and coherent manner

Reading and writing

  • Students will learn how to write an engaging story with a clear structure and thoughtful use of writing techniques
  • Learn to plan stories in a sequential and logical manner, identify logic gaps and edit writing for clarity of expression
  • Practise creating story ideas that relate directly to the theme and visuals
  • Students will also master their use of writing techniques such as flashback, foreshadowing, twist, hook and characterisation
  • Students will also be trained in situational writing and learn how to write different text types such as emails, letters and reports
  • Master the WISE method (Writing= Ideas +Structure + Expression)

Metacognitive Skills

Students will hone their metacognitive abilities and develop skills that will help them evaluate their own work. These include:

  • error analysis
  • answer precision
  • the ability to identify logic gaps
  • the ability to answer inferential questions

 

Contextualised Learning


Students will be introduced to a wide variety of themes that will help them to contextualise their learning in the real world and raise their social awareness.

Key themes include:

  • business and finance
  • media and entertainment
  • arts and humanities

Revision and Reinforcement


Students will go through intensive revision for the PSLE examination components.

These include:

  • recap of the requirements of the PSLE composition
  • revision of grammar and synthesis and transformation rules
  • recap of answering techniques and exam-savvy strategies
  • emphasis on time management

Mathematics

Lesson Duration: 2 hrs
Class size: 10 - 12 students


 

 

Get full academic support to  consolidate content knowledge and apply exam-centric skills with a focus on speed and accuracy in the exams.

Content Mastery


  • Students will review topics from P1 to P5 and tackle new topics such as Algebra, Circles, Speed, Solid Figures and Pie Charts
  • Students will be exposed to noteworthy PSLE questions during revision

Skills and Techniques


  • Students will be trained to apply various heuristics to solve complex word problems involving multiple topics/concepts and tackle non-routine problems
  • Students will learn techniques for checking answers, such as checking for reasonableness and working backwards
  • Students will analyse and reflect on how to apply the most efficient techniques for exams and to avoid errors
  • Students will be trained on other examination skills such as proper time management, effective stress management techniques and presenting solutions neatly

Revision and Reinforcement


  • Students will evaluate their content mastery through a series of quizzes and topical tests, including questions that test foundational knowledge and examination questions
  • Students will consolidate and revise concepts and key topics via concept maps, revision handouts and mock paper practices

Science

Lesson Duration: 2 hrs

Teachers guide students to revise past year topics and refine specific science-based skills to manage all components of the PSLE Science exam.

Content Mastery


  • Students will be introduced to new topics such as Sources and Forms of Energy and Forces
  • Students will acquire a deeper understanding of topics through comprehensive notes with examples of common questions and experiments
  • Students will be given tutorials for regular practice and extensive exposure to various questions

Skills and Techniques


  • Students will practice exam techniques such as data and question analysis, as well as experimental skills
  • Students will analyse experimental set-ups and recognise how a controlled variable ensures a fair experiment, and the purpose of a controlled variable
  • Students will raise their awareness of common pitfalls and learn how to analyse them in order to avoid losing marks unnecessarily
  • Students will be given extensive practice on application questions where they approach questions with unfamiliar contexts

Revision and Reinforcement


  • Students will practise multiple mock examination papers to prepare for every exam in Primary 6
  • Students will undergo a systemic, topical-based revision of all topics, common and challenging questions from Primary 3 to Primary 6
