Sharpen Skills with Clear Focus
Sharpen Skills with Clear Focus
This year is about consolidating your child's knowledge, sharpening their skills and building a strong foundation for the upcoming PSLE. Our Primary 5 programmes will systematically prepare your child to handle examinations with ease.
English
Lesson Duration: 2 hrs
Class Size: 12 students
In our Primary 5 English programme, your child will refine their communication skills and examination techniques to undertake more challenging problems in content-intensive topics.

Language Mastery
Alongside building a thematic vocabulary, students will learn advanced grammar rules, such as the use of sensorial verbs and word transformation in sentences from direct to reported speech and vice versa, to strengthen their language foundation.
Skills and Techniques
Speaking: Students will reinforce their communication skills through public debates and learn to engage with the audience, presenting their arguments in a convincing and coherent manner.
Reading & Writing: Students will learn to plan stories sequentially and logically, generating story ideas relevant to the given theme or visuals. They will practise writing engaging stories with a clear structure and thoughtful use of writing techniques, such as flashbacks, foreshadowing, twists and hooks. Students will also familiarise themselves with situational writing to manage different text types, such as emails, letters and reports.
Metacognition: Students will hone their metacognitive abilities and develop skills for self-evaluation through error analysis, answer precision, inference, identification of logic gaps and analysis of assessment rubrics.
Contextualised Learning
Students will engage in complex themes like Politics and Economics, Sport and Entertainment, and Arts and Culture, to link classroom learning to real-world contexts.
Mathematics
Lesson Duration: 2 hrs
Class Size: 12 students
Our Primary 5 Mathematics curriculum reinforces your child's core maths foundation from conceptual knowledge to application, building their confidence in answering different word problems during the examination.

Content Mastery
Students will master new topics, such as Percentage, Ratio, Area of Triangles, Rates, Average and Volume, and learn to solve word problems in these topics. They will also work on word problems involving concepts such as the part-whole relationship, units and parts, working backwards, constant difference, redistribution and repeated identity, alongside new question trends that require logical reasoning and real-world application.
Skills and Techniques
Students will construct geometrical shapes like triangles and quadrilaterals on square grids and learn to use a calculator to solve questions for Paper 2. They will apply heuristics, such as the Unitary Method, Advanced Model Drawing, Supposition and Forming Equations, to solve word problems.
Applied Learning
Students will hone their logical reasoning skills by relating the numerical data given in a problem situation. Our teacher will help reinforce new concepts learnt through class activities and games, such as Ratio Tug-of-War, which requires students to match equivalent ratios or the measurement of baking proportions with Ratio.
Science
Lesson Duration: 2 hrs
Class Size: 12 students
Our Primary 5 Science programme builds on the scientific knowledge and skills acquired in Primary 3 and 4, helping your child to integrate their learning in real-world applications.

Content Mastery
Students will revise the topics covered in Primary 3 and 4 in greater depth to answer questions that require higher-order thinking. They will also learn new topics such as Electrical Systems, Air and Living Things, Water and Changes of State, and Reproduction in Plants.
Skills and Techniques
Students will learn how to design fair experiments using a controlled variable or a specific experimental procedure. Recognising the purpose of a control set-up, they can construct one for a given experiment. Our teacher will generate questions that require students to interpret data presented in various formats (e.g., tables, graphs, charts and diagrams) to infer relationships, draw conclusions, or explain findings on relevant topics. Students will adopt a systematic approach to question analysis with our close guidance on using the appropriate scientific keywords and applying suitable answering techniques for different open-ended questions. This will build their confidence in tackling unfamiliar application questions.
Applied Learning
Students will conduct hands-on experiments, such as constructing series and parallel electric circuits, to hone practical skills and observe scientific concepts in action. Through in-class demonstrations and experiment videos, they can better understand abstract scientific concepts (e.g., factors affecting evaporation and condensation). Students will also work on application questions to connect their conceptual knowledge with real-world contexts.
Hear What They Say About TLL
Because the difference we make is why we do what we do.

"Recalling the lessons I've had in Paris 1 or New York 5, the most valuable one I gained was the sense that the world is my oyster. It is not just the names of the classrooms or the impeccable decor that encourage this sense.
I took English from P4 to S4, and the fondest moments have been those where my teachers and I discussed the many happenings outside of the classroom. Be it my teacher's fondness for architectural marvels across the world as a window shedding light on the ebbs and flows of the global economy, or her entertaining stories of her childhood encouraging reflection on our own educations, I have learnt much more than just English itself.
I am privileged to feel like I can now feel the pulse of this vast world, becoming an active participant in it, and in large part I have because TLL encouraged me to find this world beyond the classroom."

"It has been a great 3 years of rich language experience and exposure for Dharani at The Learning Lab. The English program here has a holistic approach which develops high reading capabilities, good presentation skills, essential communication skills, immense knowledge on world affairs and creative writing. Dharani has also been selected by her School to participate in English Debates, Spelling Bee Competition, Scrabble Competition and “Babble & Speak” Competition. I am very delighted and proud as a parent to see my daughter shine in these competitions. All these would not have been possible without The Learning Lab."
