Elevate Learning with Refined Techniques
Elevate Learning with Refined Techniques
As your child advances to the upper primary level, they should focus on refining key learning skills acquired from the lower primary and improve their content mastery. Our Primary 4 programmes will guide your child to hone the necessary skills and techniques to apply their content knowledge in the real-world context.
English
Lesson Duration: 1 hr 45 mins
Class Size: 12 students
By focusing on developing critical thinking and reflective learning skills, our Primary 4 English programme will accelerate your child's language mastery with better self-awareness.

Language Mastery
Besides building a thematic vocabulary, students will progress to learn intermediate and advanced grammar rules, such as relative pronouns, question tags and phrasal verbs, to strengthen their language foundation.
Skills and Techniques
Speaking: As students grow accustomed to public speaking through individual presentations, they advance towards mastering the power of persuasion when presenting their opinions.
Reading & Writing: Students will read a wide variety of passages such as non-fiction and personal recounts, as they learn to identify organisational patterns in a text, for example, chronological sequencing, compare-and-contrast and topic sentences. Through such exposure, students will learn to create thematic story ideas and write a good story with structure and story curves, using advanced techniques like simple characterisation and slow-motion description. They can also practise using varied sentence structures with appropriate word choices in their writing.
Metacognition: Students will hone their metacognitive abilities and develop self-evaluation skills through error analysis, answer precision, inference and identification of logic gaps.
Contextualised Learning
With themes focusing on the environment, the world today and existing career pathways, students can link classroom learning to events, people, places and cultures in the real world.
Mathematics
Lesson Duration: 1 hr 45 mins
Class Size: 12 students
Our Primary 4 Mathematics curriculum expands on topics learnt in the lower primary with increasing complexity, which requires applying prior knowledge and making new connections.

Content Mastery
Expanding on their foundational understanding of basic arithmetic that includes rounding off and the four operations of decimals, students will build upon their fundamental knowledge of Fractions, Area and Perimeter, and Geometry to master new topics like Factors and Multiples, Decimals and Symmetry. Students will also learn to solve word problems involving concepts, such as equivalent fractions, redistribution and the part-whole relationship.
Skills and Techniques
Students will learn to use a protractor to measure and draw geometric angles. To solve word problems, they will apply heuristics, such as Supposition, Forming Equations, Advanced Model Drawing and Draw a Table.
Applied Learning
Students will experience real-life maths applications through class activities, which reflect problems in the real-world context. For example, applying Fractions in pizza distribution and using an 8-point compass with its geometric properties to locate points on a map. Games like 'War of Numbers’, which requires students to match decimals and fractions of equal value, also reinforce their learning with visualisation.
Science
Lesson Duration: 1 hr 45 mins
Class Size: 12 students
Shifting from recalling concepts to applying knowledge, our Primary 4 Science curriculum is designed to expose your child to real-world scenarios, deepening their understanding of scientific applications.

Content Mastery
Students will revise topics covered in Primary 3 at a greater depth to work on questions that require a higher order of thinking, before delving into new topics such as Matter, Light and Heat.
Skills and Techniques
Students will learn techniques to systematically analyse unconventional and challenging questions and construct relevant, coherent answers to open-ended questions. They will interpret experimental data to infer relationships between variables, draw conclusions and explain findings using relevant keywords.
Applied Learning
Students will conduct hands-on experiments, such as investigating the effects of heat on liquids, using the correct apparatus and following the right procedures, to hone practical skills and observe science concepts in action. They will learn to apply these concepts in varying contexts, as presented in questions. Our teacher will also introduce interesting passages, such as the effects of surface area and its application in real-world contexts, to make science more relatable and exciting for students.
Hear What They Say About TLL
Because the difference we make is why we do what we do.
Gloria Chua
"Recalling the lessons I've had in Paris 1 or New York 5, the most valuable one I gained was the sense that the world is my oyster. It is not just the names of the classrooms or the impeccable decor that encourage this sense.
I took English from P4 to S4, and the fondest moments have been those where my teachers and I discussed the many happenings outside of the classroom. Be it my teacher's fondness for architectural marvels across the world as a window shedding light on the ebbs and flows of the global economy, or her entertaining stories of her childhood encouraging reflection on our own educations, I have learnt much more than just English itself.
I am privileged to feel like I can now feel the pulse of this vast world, becoming an active participant in it, and in large part I have because TLL encouraged me to find this world beyond the classroom."

"I have always heard raving reviews about The Learning Lab, but I was only truly convinced after enrolling my daughter, Jessica, for its programmes.
Ever since Jessica started taking Science and English lessons at TLL, she has gained considerable confidence in these subjects. She is given very comprehensive Science notes weekly, which effectively condense difficult topics and illustrate critical concepts. Experiments conducted in class help to stimulate Jessica’s curiosity and interest in learning too! With a strong foundation in place, she has consistently been scoring above 90 marks for Science. She is faring well in English too, and is in the Band One range for the subject.
I am also impressed by the commitment of Jessica’s teachers at TLL, who show genuine concern for her by contacting me regularly to update on her progress."
