Frequently Asked Questions About Our JC Electives
1. Who are these electives for?
These electives are designed for JC students who want to supplement their core subjects with additional learning opportunities. They are particularly beneficial for students who seek to:
- Deepen their understanding of specific topics
- Prepare for examinations more effectively
- Explore areas of interest beyond the core curriculum
2. Are the electives open for both JC1 and JC2 students?
Yes. Both JC1 and JC2 students can sign up for the electives.
For JC1 students, the electives will help them strengthen their understanding of key topics to build their confidence and prepare for the promotional exams and block tests.
For JC2 students, they can choose to take up electives for the topics that they wish to recap so as to build a strong foundation for the JC1 topics before the A-Levels.
3. What is the format of these electives?
It is an online class with a maximum of 40 students. However, unlike a lecture, there will be opportunities for student interaction:
- While the teacher goes through content, students will also be asked to try some questions.
- Teachers will provide solutions and answers for students to check on.
- Teachers will also utilise interactive tools during the sessions to encourage student participation
4. How are the electives different from the core JC English and Mathematics programmes for an existing TLL student?
JC electives offer several advantages, including:
a) In-depth exploration and targeted preparation
- For English, while we cover each topic thoroughly in the core programme, the electives focus on other sub-topics, as well as in-depth exam skills preparation.
- For Mathematics, while we cover each topic thoroughly in the core programme, the electives focus on challenging topics or concepts students often struggle with, as well as in-depth exam skills preparation.
b) Flexible scheduling
These electives can be scheduled to complement your core classes and fit your individual learning style. Students can mix and match electives across both subjects to create a personalised learning plan that aligns with their needs.
5. How are the topics for the electives selected?
The topics for the electives are carefully chosen based on:
- Gap Analysis: Identifying areas where students may require additional support or enrichment.
- Exam Relevance: Ensuring that the topics are closely aligned with the JC1 curriculum and exam requirements.
- Student Interest: Considering the interests and preferences of JC1 students.
6. How do students receive their worksheets?
Worksheets can be downloaded and printed from our learning management system (TLL.360).
To access the platform, go to tll.instructure.com.
To log into the student's account, key in the TLL student ID under "Student ID", and the mobile phone number of the preferred contact under "password".
Students will just need to click on the course tile on the dashboard for the JC Elective they are enrolled in to access the worksheets and online class Zoom links.
7. Will the worksheets be marked?
No, they will not be marked because the worksheets will cover all the content covered in the lesson. There will be online tasks and discussions during the lesson, with teacher feedback and sample answers during the lesson.
8. Is there any homework after each elective?
No, there will be no homework. Students will get sample answers during the sessions and for English they will receive a summary mind-map that captures key content covered.
9. Will lesson recordings be available for viewing after the lessons?
Yes. Lesson recordings will be available for 14 days after the lesson.
10. Given that there are 11 electives each across English and Mathematics, will students be sufficiently prepared for JC1 exams by signing up for all electives?
While the electives can provide valuable supplementary learning, they are not intended to replace the core JC subjects. The electives can serve as a valuable complement to your core studies, helping you achieve a deeper understanding and better exam preparation.

Hear What They Say About TLL
Because the difference we make is why we do what we do.
Denise Lai
"A determined and kind teacher who never gave up on her students, Ms Shu truly inspired me and all my classmates to work harder and never give up. Without any expectation of recognition, Ms Shu has been our light when we were shrouded in darkness.
I can confidently say that Ms Shu is definitely the best teacher that I have ever met, and I believe that most of my success can be credited to her and TLL.
Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to TLL and my teachers for never giving up on me. Without them, I would never dare to dream of where I am today, and I would never have achieved the results I have today."
Serene Peh
"I remember my first lesson with TLL.
I really loved the lesson; it was engaging and interesting. In every lesson there’s something new and my teacher used to draw things to help us understand difficult concepts more easily.
I always felt that I was learning a lot and it made me curious to keep finding out more."
