Please take note that lessons for the following programmes will be conducted in fully physical classes. Your child may also opt to attend lessons online. 

  • For students who choose to attend class physically, they will receive hardcopy worksheets in class. 
  • For students who choose to attend virtually, they will have to download and print worksheets from home & attend the programme via TLL.360.  Worksheets will not be mailed.

The What, Why and How of 

Comprehension and Summary Writing

This programme provides JC 1 students clarity of the expectations and skills required to do well in the comprehension and summary questions in Paper 2. This is an ideal programme for students who wish to build a stronger foundation in Paper 2.

Your child will be guided through step by step instructions for the tricky comprehension and summary sections of the paper. Your child will also go through the specific requirements of each comprehension question type and summary question with immediate feedback by the teacher.

In class, your child will be exposed to a range of questions on the text, and be taught how to explain, infer and summarise. He or she will also be taught how to check his or her own answers.

Programme Highlights

For Comprehension 

Your child can look forward to:

  • learning how to unpack and understand more challenging passages.

  • being exposed to the various A-level comprehension question types (including literal/direct, vocabulary and inference questions) which will be analysed..

  • learning specific techniques to break down each question type.

  • learning how to craft detailed answers which show that they have understood and analysed the passage well. 


For Summary 

Your child can look forward to:

  • learning the strict requirements especially in using his or her own words
  • understanding the steps and techniques to rewrite and shorten sentences in order to meet the word count requirements

 

 


Gain exposure to the various A-Level comprehension and summary questions types, and their specific requirements.


Learn techniques to break down each question type and craft detailed answers that demonstrate understanding.


Learn how to check their answers and avoid common pitfalls, especially for more challenging passages.

Comprehension and Summary Writing

The What, Why and How of 

the Application Question (AQ)

This programme provides J1 students with clarity regarding the expectations and skills required to do well in  the Paper 2 (Comprehension) application question.

This is an ideal programme for students who wish to build a strong foundation in this new and challenging part of the Comprehension paper which requires identification of claims and applying them to the Singapore context.

Your child will be guided through step-by-step instructions for both single- and double-passage application questions. He or she will also go through the expectations of application question answers with immediate feedback from the teacher who will help your child check through his or her own answers.

Programme Highlights

Your child can look forward to: 

  • learning how to unpack and understand more challenging passages
  • gaining familiarity with various A-level AQ question types (both single and double passage)
  • learning how to select appropriate claims from the passage and apply them to Singapore using reliable evidence (based on the latest current affairs case studies and statistics) and personal observations

Teachers will also give students feedback for their AQ.

 

 

Comprehension and Summary Writing

The What, Why and How of 

Essay Writing

This programme provides JC 1 students with clarity for the expectations and skills required to do well in the Paper 1 essay. Your child will be guided through step-by-step instructions, from unpacking challenging essay questions to developing ideas in a sophisticated and convincing manner. 

Your child will also be taught how to write a balanced argument with appropriate signposts and paragraph structuring. He or she will be guided on how to tackle all the requirements for several key A-level question types.

Programme Highlights

Your child can look forward to learning how to: 

  • unpack and analyse A level essay question types
  • write clearly and with an organised essay structure that reflects a balanced argument
  • use evidence to support or refute arguments in their essays 

Teachers will also give feedback on students' writing and guide them on common pitfalls and errors.
