Mediacorp artiste Zoe Tay's children have been taking enrichment classes at The Learning Lab since 2017. Her three sons, who are currently in Primary 3, Primary 6 and Secondary 2 respectively, have been through the same academic journey as the rest of our learners.
We appreciate and take pride in the positive feedback that we receive from the parents of our students. This time, we asked Zoe about what she, as a parent, thinks of her sons’ learning progress.
In the interview below, Zoe shares why she thinks TLL is the choice partner for educating her children and co-creating their future.
1. TLL Cultivates Emotional Intelligence, Not Just Academic Performance
“The Learning Lab does not just focus on improving their students’ results. I’ve noticed that there is a healthy social culture and that teachers instil positive values in their students through unique curriculum materials. They provide their students with valuable life lessons that prepare them for the future and will prove beneficial to them in the long run.
For example, in English comprehension, the passages the students read are usually stories with a meaningful moral – like how bullying is bad.
In Maths, students are taught how to tell time through applying the concepts to real-life scenarios, such as by making up a travel itinerary with various activities, where they will have to calculate the time taken for each activity. It really injects a sense of fun into the learning process!
In Science, my boys got to grow their own plants and mushrooms when they were learning about Biology. They can even tell me the scientific names of some of the mushrooms we eat, which I never knew myself!”
2. TLL Teachers are Passionately Dedicated to Bringing Out Each Student's Potential
“I heard that becoming a TLL teacher is a very stringent process. Candidates are thoroughly screened and go through multiple interviews to assess their attitude and demeanour. Only the ones who are extremely passionate about nurturing young minds make it to the end. I also know that teachers frequently join training sessions to update their skills.
So far, every teacher I’ve met at TLL goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that my sons are geared up for both academic and personal success. I noticed that many teachers take the initiative to spice things up in the classroom by, for example, spending their own personal time to create crossword puzzles that help improve students’ vocabulary.
I also like that, in the classroom, students are rewarded with various items for doing well. It seems that the teachers genuinely enjoy connecting with the students, motivating them and cheering them on.”

3. The TLL Curriculum Makes Learning Fun
“My boys tell me that they get to play board games related to the subjects and topics that they are currently learning.
Also, props to the teachers for incorporating role-playing into their lessons! As someone who plays roles for a living, I know how valuable such experiences can be for learning and understanding new things.
Another activity my sons really enjoyed was learning about current events through informative videos and podcasts, which the teachers always supplement with in-class discussions.
I really like that class sizes are small at TLL. It’s great that teachers are able to devote more time and attention to each child. A lot of interaction also takes place between the students themselves, which helps them to learn from each other’s academic mistakes.
I feel like the group setting also helped my boys to become more cooperative towards each other, especially through the many opportunities for teamwork. This will prepare them for the real world where they have to work alongside others.”
