Did you know that the tiger is the largest of the world’s big cats? Or that the patterned stripes on their bodies are unique, just like human fingerprints?
More importantly, did you know that these magnificent striped felines are on the brink of extinction?
Celebrating the International Tiger Day is a wonderful way to draw much-need attention to the plight of these majestic creatures.
How Did The International Tiger Day Come About?
The International Tiger Day (also known as World Tiger Day or Global Tiger Day) was first celebrated in 2010. It was founded at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit that had been called in response to the shocking news that 97% of all wild tigers had disappeared over the last century, leaving a meagre 3,000 left alive today.
Since then, many animal welfare organisations have come forward to pledge their support in efforts to protect of these beautiful creatures by helping to raise funds and awareness for tiger conservation worldwide.
